How to Fix Xbox Wireless Controller (Series X/S) Stick Drift
Xbox Series controllers drift when the potentiometer wiper track accumulates carbon dust or the spring tension wears. Cleaning and tension checks resolve most cases.
Step 1: Measure the exact drift

Step 2: Clean the potentiometer housings
Open the shell, remove the stick modules, and flush 99% isopropyl alcohol through the sensor housings while rotating the stick fully.
Step 3: Adjust in-game deadzones
Until the module is clean or replaced, set a small in-game deadzone that covers the measured drift — see our game settings guides.
Step 4: Replace the stick modules if needed
Series X/S sticks are soldered modules; replacement requires soldering or a module-swap service. If the controller is under warranty, prefer an RMA.
Step 5: Re-test the fix
Run the Stick Drift Detector again. A healthy stick reads 0.0%–0.5% at rest on both axes.
