Testing Surround Sound: what to listen for

Surround accuracy depends on HRTF processing, not the number of physical drivers — two good stereo drivers can localize footsteps above a headset with many weak ones. In shooters, vertical and behind-you cues are the hardest for poor HRTF to render; if a footstep jumps between "in front" and "behind" with no in-between, the headset is smearing the image. How to test: Close your eyes and point at each ping as it plays; score yourself on cardinal directions first, then diagonals and height changes.

Why is Bluetooth audio latency bad for gaming?

Standard Bluetooth (SBC/AAC codecs) introduces 150ms to 300ms of audio delay, causing footsteps and gunshot audio to lag behind on-screen actions. Dedicated 2.4GHz wireless headsets reduce latency under 20ms.
