How to Fix PS5 DualSense Stick Drift

90% of DualSense stick drift is carbon dust inside the green ALPS potentiometer housings. Cleaning fixes most cases; Hall-effect module swaps fix the rest permanently.

Step 1: Measure the exact drift

Run our Stick Drift Detector to identify which axis (left/right stick, X/Y) is drifting and how bad it is. Record the percentage before you open anything.

Step 2: Flush the potentiometer wipers

Remove the shell, lift the stick module flex cable, and spray 99% isopropyl alcohol into the green potentiometer housings while rotating the stick. Re-seat everything and re-test.

Step 3: Adjust in-game deadzones as a stopgap

While the module is drying, set an in-game deadzone that covers your measured drift (see our game settings guides). This restores playability instantly.

Step 4: Permanent fix: Hall-effect module swap

If cleaning fails, replace the potentiometer modules with Hall-effect magnetic modules (approx. $12–$25 per module, no soldering required on DualSense). Magnetic sensors do not wear.

Step 5: Re-test the fix

Run the Stick Drift Detector again. The stick should hold 0.0%–0.5% at rest. If drift persists, repeat the cleaning or swap the other module.
